About Program

Our teaching program is designed to empower children and youth from underprivileged communities by providing them with access to quality non-formal education and language skills. Volunteers in this program work closely with local teachers, community leaders, and our partner NGOs to support learning initiatives that foster confidence, curiosity, and academic growth among students.

As a teaching volunteer, you’ll engage in a variety of activities, including conducting English language lessons, organizing interactive workshops, assisting with homework and after-school programs, supporting local teachers with lesson planning, and creating culturally relevant teaching materials. Our program complements the local education system by focusing on language development, soft skills, and life skills where support is most needed. Volunteers work in safe community centers or partner schools, with flexible short- or long-term placements to suit your schedule.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Program Impact

Volunteers develop practical skills, gain cross-cultural understanding, and grow personally and professionally. They build confidence, leadership, and resilience by working in real-world environments, while fostering lifelong friendships and networks. By immersing themselves in Sri Lanka’s vibrant culture and diverse communities, volunteers not only make a difference but also gain a new perspective on global challenges and their role in creating positive change.
